A subset of liposuction is liposculpting or liposculpture. This technique is best suited for patients who are in good shape and close to their ideal weight. Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. The goal is to achieve a better contour and overall appearance in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. Common areas include the breasts and love handles in men. The lateral thighs, inner thighs, abdomen, and flanks in both men and women.
The technique of achieving a high definition of musculature in a sculpting-type fashion can give very impressive results. For example, in males breasts and abdominal wall or six-pack can be refined. They can achieve a greater definition and reach those elusive goals.
LIPOSCULPTURE
Postoperatively I do not use drains but I do use a compression vest and binders. These garments can help reduce swelling and bruising and hasten the achievement of the intended result. The nonsurgical reduction of fat is not nearly as effective as the surgical removal of unwanted and excess fat. These are contouring procedures.
We offer red light and ultrasound treatments postoperatively to augment and hasten the final result. These are very effective ways to achieve the best result after liposuction.
