Recovery after rhinoplasty focuses on several elements. The internal structures of the nose went through a rearrangement. Therefore, they must be immobilized. This is in order for them to heal in their proper position for optimal rhinoplasty recovery. Thus giving the best result. In my practice, I use internal nasal packing. And, I use an external splint. This is in order to immobilize the structures and their optimal position for a fixed period of time.
I remove the packing in five to six days. Also, the splint comes off two weeks after the surgical procedure. Swelling may last up to a year. However, when the splint comes off you will see at least 70% of the final result. The remaining time will allow swelling to subside and the final achievement. Thicker skin may require more time to heal. Sometimes we will use massages and certain injections to help facilitate the resolution of the swelling.
Rhinoplasty Recovery
Once the splint is off, makeup may be used to conceal whatever residual bruising exists. We like to keep exercise to a minimum for at least up to two months. However, low-impact cardio and low weights can be used. Again the postoperative instructions after rhinoplasty are very important. The patient must follow them carefully in order to achieve the most aesthetically satisfactory result. For an optimal rhinoplasty recovery, I use the close technique with packing a splint as outlined above. This method achieves the best results.
