CAN I JUST HAVE LIPOSUCTION TO GET RID OF MY POOCH?

liposuctionLiposuction is the application of vacuum to areas of fat in a variety of locations in the body. It does not address anything but removal of fat. There are some devices that supposedly offer some skin tightening but I have not been completely impressed yet.

There are a variety of methods to suction fat. However, in my practice I thoroughly evaluate the skin in this area. The lower abdominal area or pooch is usually due to not only fat but laxity of the muscle as well as intra-abdominal factors pushing outward on this area.

Therefore, bladder in uterus may contribute to this lower bulge. In my practice this usually requires a discussion about the benefit of abdominoplasty or a tummy tuck. Therefore, if the patient desires the optimal and most benefit of the lower abdominal bulge then I usually suggest the join the hundreds of thousands if not millions of people around the world who have had an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck? In the right patient -this unquestionably gives the most satisfying result.

Liposuction

In my practice I am very aggressive about tightening the inner muscle, dissecting fully up to the rib areas to excise the maximum amount of loose skin and fat. I usually do not use drains. This approach in my opinion to the abdominal wall, including the lower abdominal bulge or pooch. It gives the most inclusive and best opportunity for satisfaction and achievement of optimal contour of the abdominal wall for both men and women.

So therefore, the answer to the question is possibly liposuction alone may be of some benefit but most likely the answer is no, and you may require a more aggressive approach to achieve your most satisfying result.
