Are PDO threads in the nose safe

Why PDO Threads in the Nose Aren’t Recommended: Expert Insights on Rhinoplasty Alternatives

PDO threads were created over 10 years ago by a cosmetologist to expand the services offered by non-MDs in medical spas. These threads — either smooth or barbed — can theoretically stimulate collagen production, tighten the skin, and rejuvenate or lift when placed correctly.

However, I believe they have very limited value, especially in the nose. The anatomy of the nose is specific and delicate. Using fillers or threads can disrupt its normal function and may prevent achieving the best surgical results.

In my opinion, there’s no place for threads in the nose. For those seeking improvement in their nasal appearance, a thorough consultation with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon is the best approach.

Most providers of thread treatments are dermatologists and injectors in medical spas. If there is any improvement from using threads, repeat applications will be necessary. The best results in rhinoplasty typically occur during the first procedure, so choosing a qualified surgeon is essential.

Theoretically, PDO threads can produce collagen, potentially lifting and tightening the skin. However, skin thickness plays a crucial role in the outcome. Thick skin may hinder achieving an elegant result and could lead to circulation issues and complications with healing.

Therefore, I do not recommend using threads in the nose. Instead, I advise consulting an experienced plastic surgeon who can provide various techniques. It’s vital for patients to understand these options and review the surgeon’s portfolio to see if their style aligns with your vision.
