THE ISSUE OF ELF EARS

The issue of elf ears comes up occasionally. Elf ears can occur at birth, in which case the infant ear can be molded into a normal non-pointed configuration. Elf ears are essentially pointed. Molding can improve the pointedness of an infant’s ear.

If this molding process doesn’t work, then surgery can be indicated. In the noncongenital world, the pointed or Spock ear can be desirable to some.

This requires surgery from a plastic surgeon who can re-create the pointed ear. This is highly unusual and highly abnormal.

Elf Ears

The elf ear is a mimic of Lord of the Rings or Spock from Star Trek. Some people can use a prosthetic, which is removable to achieve a pointed ear. If this is unacceptable, then a plastic surgeon can create a pointed ear or elf ear.

In summary, a pointed ear or ELF ear can be congenital in which case non-surgical molding of the infant’s ear may address the issue. If it persists an otoplasty to surgically correct is available. If an adult wants a pointed ear a plastic surgeon may be able to create it.
