SYMMASTIA AND CAN IT BE FIXED?

Symmastia is a condition whereby the two independent breasts communicate in the midline. It can be a condition from birth – which is very rare, or it can be surgically created during augmentation.

Each breast must sit in its own surgically created pocket, and if those pockets communicate in the midline Then there is no cleavage, but a uni-breast. This is highly troublesome to the patient.

Symmastia

In my experience, the best way to repair Symmastia is to remove the implants for at least 3 months and then Re-augment. The re-augmentation should be in a different plane of the section than the original implant placement.

This is essential to avoid recurrence of the universe or the symmastia. For example, if the original implant pockets were over the muscle, causing the condition of uni-breast. The new pocket should then be under the muscle. This new plane of the section for the pocket will eliminate the risk of recurrence.

There have been suggested non-surgical treatments, but none are successful. Also, it’s important not to use excessively large implants as they may create this problem. This is a surgical issue repaired by surgical techniques.
