LIQUID RHINOPLASTY DANGERS

As we address in the past, rhinoplasty requires of all the procedures plastic surgeons offer, the greatest knowledge, experience skill, and talent. Rhinoplasty is either a reduction procedure and a refinement of the anatomy, or it can be an augmentation rhinoplasty requiring the addition of strategically placed volume. When it comes to non-surgical or liquid rhinoplasty – to think that adding filler to the nose can create an aesthetic and artistic result comparable to the result a professional plastic surgeon achieves is DELUSIONAL – to put it mildly.

In other words, if you think you can get a good result with adding filler to your nose, I believe in my opinion it is a mistake. But it can produce temporary acceptability. However, there are isolated circumstances where a depression or a lack of volume may be improved temporarily and I emphasize temporarily by adding filler and selected areas of the nose.

Because fillers are so readily available by unscrupulous and minimally trained medical professionals, the possibility of a major mistake is great. The most significant complications encountered and reported to date are skin loss, whereby the injection process obstructs and impairs the blood supply to a certain skin area of the nose. Once the blood supply stops, the skin dies, turns black and falls off. This can happen anywhere on the nose from the forehead to the lateral sides in the tip.

If the product enters an arterial or venous vessel this could create blindness. This has been reported. Also, lumpiness, asymmetry, and a disproportionate dissolution of the product could, during the absorption process create a more unsightly result than initially treated. Filler on the nose can be a temporary solution to an area of low volume or indentation or depression. It is not a final significant improvement to the nose.

As stated, liquid injections or nonsurgical rhinoplasty must be maintained with repeated injections over time. Eventually, the patient will end up spending as much, if not more than they would for a real artistic surgical result. And lastly, in my opinion, liquid or nonsurgical rhinoplasty eventually will go the way of the umbilical breast augmentation and is the equivalent of wearing a padded bra wishing that you had a breast augmentation.
