Breast augmentation is one of the, if not the most common procedures offered by and performed by board-certified plastic surgeons. Implant size is always the main topic. Once the patient has been physically examined and the concept of breast size discussed thoroughly in our practice we usually then move into the sizing process. Should state upfront that we are no longer your saline implants.
We offer exclusively silicone gel in all forms of cohesive beauty based on the patient’s current amount of skin and breast tissue. We always recommend a mammogram prior to moving forward. I believe the silicone products are best and create the best result in the most natural looking and feeling press.
The patient’s height and weight are crucial to determining what size implant to use. The patients with the least amount of skin and average height will usually have an information incision a sub muscular placement of silicone gel implant. If however the patient is very tall say 5’11 or taller we may entertain the largest available implant which is 800 mL of volume. It will all come down to the patient’s personal preference and aesthetic goals. This is important because it’s essential that the patient feels comfortable in her own skin and maximize in her mind her sex appeal as well as looking her best in closing and bathing suits.
Breast Augmentation
There is no hard and fast rule as to what the maximum size is. However, the largest commercially available implant is 800ml. I rarely use this large and implant unless the patient is very large and adamant about this size implant. Our average size is somewhere between 300 and 400ml. In my experience the most crucial element of size determination other than height and weight is the sizing process. We take great pains to work with the patient to get an idea of what they would like best by placing implants in a bra and having the patient examine how this looks and feels.
This sizing process which is interactive with the patient in my opinion gives the best long-term results and minimizes if not eliminates the regret in size choice. Again breast augmentation is a very fulfilling and exciting operation which changes women’s personal appeal and enhances their self-confidence. Good breasts are a very positive component of woman’s life.
