Chin augmentation although not as common as other plastic surgical procedures is a sought after result. The chin implant can create a more pleasing profile. In some instances, it can also improve the frontal view. The classic way to augment the chin is with a silicone chin implant. This implant comes in various sizes and configurations within a range. If the chin is narrow as well as receding the implant can improve both of these aspects.
Chin Augmentation
Usually, a chin evaluation and treatment are thought of in conjunction with the overall profile. The components of profile analysis include the forehead, nose, the cheekbones, and the chin. The analysis reveals and has as its goal to determine the balance between the forehead, eyes, nose, cheeks, and mouth to chin proportion.
If the occlusion, or the way the teeth come together, is normal that is a normal occlusion. Then the chin augmentation is a consideration to improve the profile. Genioplasty can take the form of mandibular (jaw) surgery as well as the implant. Furthermore, in today’s world, the chin may undergo augmentation temporarily with fillers. We must keep in mind that filler augmentation of the chin is temporary.
Nose Surgery
The nose/chin complex is essential to evaluate the attractiveness of the profile. So in my practice, nasal reduction in conjunction with treatment for microgenia (small chin) is always a consideration. The majority of rhinoplasty patients have adequate chin position and rarely need chin augmentation. Also, nonsurgical rhinoplasty may be performed with fillers.
In summary, as long as the forehead and eyes show a balance and then the patient may have the surgical rhinoplasty and chin implant performed simultaneously. Although the filler route for nose and chin is available, in my opinion, it is definitely temporary and not as desirable as the permanency and dependability of surgical procedures.
