One of the important areas aesthetically of the face is the chin and the area below it called the sub mental region. A double chin is when fat hangs below the chin. Can chin lipo help remove a double chin?As with all other areas of aesthetics we focus on the diagnosis and appropriate treatments for a double chin. There are certain relationships that we have learned over time give the best aesthetic look of the face of this area. This begins with the occlusion of the teeth.
Double Chin
When the occlusion is normal and the chin is set back then chin implant or more recently but more temporarily fillers including fat can be used. The area under the bone of the chin if it sags can be caused by skin, muscle, fat both above and below the muscle. Therefore a sub mental incision must be used to address this area from a surgical standpoint. If the fat on top of the muscle is excessive it can be removed with a suction device. Then the muscle can be tightened and if needed the fat under the muscle can be removed.
There have been shots to dissolve the fat which have varying degrees of success. Thread procedures can be used to also tighten this area if needed. Also the response is variable. If the bone of the chin as stated earlier is set back a and implant can be used with or without the other procedures to dress this contour area of the face. We often include the sub mental area during rhinoplasty evaluation and facelift evaluation. However it can be addressed by itself and treated.
