Today’s young woman is well educated and worldly. And, when it comes to her looks she has very specific goals, ideas, and intentions. Young rhinoplasty nose job patients, mostly female, but also a certain percentage are men, want the best looking and functioning nose possible.
I often ask patients to bring wish pictures of noses that they like. More often than not they refer to my own patients from our website. Often times they show me a picture of a celebrity or just a beautiful nose that they like. When it comes to a nose job, there are certainly functional and anatomic issues that we have to address that are specific to today’s young woman.
Piercings at or around the nose must be removed. The anatomic structures that we change during rhinoplasty do not lend themselves well to piercing. I usually recommend waiting at least a year. After a nose job, new piercings of the nose should wait one year. Also if the piercing is metal it can cause damage to the skin at its contact point.
Re-Piercings too early can cause infection, breathing difficulties, excessive scar tissue, cartilage shifting, and overall distortion. Hence the one-year wait. I realize that certain of today’s young glamorous women favor piercings but they also want and desire an elegant cover girl nose. That special look can be achieved provided the anatomic structures preoperatively lend themselves well to the creation of the relationships necessary to achieve that cover girl look.
Often times with a rhinoplasty nose job we will address breathing difficulties. This includes septal deviation, turbinate enlargement and deformed bony structures that prevent us from achieving the best possible nasal appearance.
