The axilla, or the armpit, often accumulates fat. In a female, this can also be an extension of the breast tissue. This area of excess skin and fat can be unsightly. Especially in certain garments. For example, strapless gowns or bathing suits. Removal or flattening of this armpit fat with armpit liposuction is often desirable.
Flattening or contouring this area can be performed surgically. Nonsurgical treatments are a failure. Even with the best of diets and reduction of body fat these full areas will persist. As with medicine in general the diagnosis is essential to design the treatment. In this case, the diagnosis is usually excess fat and skin. Shrinkage of the skin may not be complete with liposuction alone. Therefore I usually recommend skin excision and contouring as well. The incision for this procedure is put in a very inconspicuous location. This is so that it is not readily visible.
The armpit fat excision is often performed at the same time as a mastopexy or a breast reduction. This is done in order to achieve the best possible breast contouring operation. The armpit fat area can be addressed by itself. However, it is usually performed in conjunction with other breast or body contouring procedures.
The back roll area is a much more extensive surgical procedure. This is when there is redundancy or excess hanging skin and fat of the back. Direct excision is recommended as white bow suction alone may not create the flattest most attractive result.
