ARE MY EXPECTATIONS REALISTIC ABOUT REVISION RHINOPLASTY?

The answer to this question is very complex. it depends on many factors. It must be stated that the first time is the best time to achieve the best result. That’s why it is very important to have the best plastic surgeon. Available the first time.

Most revisions are done because the original surgeon was not completely versed in the techniques. However, once you can have a revision, it is even more important to choose the right doctor. The concept of expectations is fundamental. Our technique for evaluating expectations is to have the patient share with us a series of photos of noses that they like. We spent considerable time on this so that we could obtain a window into the vision that the patient has for their nose.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY

Once we have a change a clear picture of the patient’s goals, then we can discuss the realism of their expectations. It’s important to understand that the nose has a very complex structure with limitations on what can be achieved. Those limitations are discussed in detail. It’s essential for the surgeon to understand the relationship that must be achieved to obtain the most aesthetic and elegant-looking nose for that patient.

If there is a lack of cartilage, then the material must be obtained. We discussed all the options including cartilage grafting -which is my preference. The thickness of the skin is essential to discuss in detail because it will limit the refinement achievable. Postop instructions are essential and must be followed as outlined.

Therefore, the answer to the question is usually in my experience. Revision expectations are realistic.  provided the patient understands all the limitations we have outlined, including the thickness of the skin and lack of cartilage.
